Tropical marine species are venturing into new areas as climate change drives cold water from deep sea.

A new study found strong winds are causing waters to be pushed from the coast, pulling cold water into its place.

Researchers from James Cook University found extreme ‘upwelling events’ occurring along the south-east coast of South Africa.

Rural reporter Georgia Kondek spoke with Doctor Nicolas Lubitz about the findings of this study and the concerns for the future.
