The renaissance of Peugeot

Motor Torque

Talking further on the re-birth of French brand Peugeot on the local market under a new importer Inchgape International. We’ve seen several renaissances for Peugeot over the last ten years but invariably they run out of steam. This time we’re assured that a strong marketing presence on TV to the end of the year will re-invigorate the brand. The first new model under the renaissance is the new Peugeot 3008 mid-sized SUV – the 2017 European Car of the Year – not a bad title to carry when you are re-launching a car brand. Disappointingly, I had to pull out of the launch of this
interesting new Peugeot SUV due to a bad dose of flu but on paper it’s a big change to the superseded more upright model. The latest 3008 has a lower more sporty stance – four automatic models, all front drive, the lower three grades Active, Allure and GT-Line powered by a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol, the top-grade GT by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel. With no low-priced entry model and with prices kicking off at $36,990 for the 3008 Active, $39,490 for the Allure, 43,490 for the GT-Line and 49,490 for the top grade GT it’s obvious that Inchgape has positioned the new 3008 more upmarket. After all no SUV has previously taken out the European Car of the Year Title. Having said that it is going to take a considerable investment and effort to once again lift the Peugeot brand in this country – I look forward to driving the new 3008 SUV in coming weeks. I’m David Berthon
