Sydney’s new Speedway facility takes shape

David Berthon

World class Speedway events has been missing from the Sydney scene for some time so it’s great to see construction of Sydney’s new international Speedway at Eastern Creek is well advanced. And despite the recent two week lockdown for the construction industry one hopes it will be ready for the start of the 2021 racing season due to get under way in late October. The $70 million dollar Government investment also includes a $33 million upgrade to the current Sydney Motorsport precinct.

The new complex is shaping up to be a world class facility with a grandstand for 4,750, extensive corporate facilities, workshops and garages as well as trackside pits, a dedicated car park for speedway competitors and spectator facilities including terraced seating for up to 7,000 fans. The complex will also host a number of recreational and community events, charity functions but the return of world class Speedway can’t come soon enough.
