Skoda brand on the move

Motor Torque

One of the best performers in the car market in the first quarter was Czech  brand Skoda with sales up 79 percent on the first quarter last year. Part of the Volkswagen Group Skoda is enjoying strong growth on the back of its SUV line-up. Their three K’s – the Kamiq, Karoq and Kodiaq SUV’S now represent 62 percent of  sales – the small Kamiq introduced last year now their best seller. The entry Kamiq 85TSI in particular a great allrounder– with 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine and seven-speed dual clutch automatic well priced at $29,990 drive-away.

In a highly competitive segment it wins on space, equipment, comfort, performance and economy – points quickly picked up by an SUV hungry public – the name Kamiq, comes from the indigenous people of Alaska meaning ‘something that fits perfectly’ and its most apt. Much of the Kamiq shared with Volkswagen’s T-Cross SUV but for my money the Skoda has more appeal.
