Saxbys: Home grown, and proud

In the day and age of companies sourcing product and labour from overseas, it’s rare to find a company that is completely owned and operated by Australians.

But they do exist. The Saxby family have been brewing their renowned ginger beer on these very shores since 1864, and they’re not changing anytime soon.

The company was started by George Saxby, who migrated to Australia as a child from England, in 1839. Five generations later, the company is now owned and operated by his great-great-grandson Ian Turner.

Ian joins John Stanley to discuss the history of his family’s company and the difficulties they face with strictly operating in Australia.
