Research reveals alcohol-induced deaths is the highest in 10 years

Bill Woods

Bill Woods is joined by Peter Hayton, Chief Psychologist at The Banyans Health and Wellness, about new ABS data that reveals alcohol-induced Aussie deaths are the highest in 10 years and shares advice for those struggling to healthily manage their alcohol consumption.

The report acknowledges that alcohol-induced deaths are those where the underlying cause can be directly attributed to alcohol use, including acute conditions such as alcohol poisoning or chronic conditions such as alcoholic liver cirrhosis.

Sadly, there were 1,559 people who died of an alcohol-induced death (1,156 males and 403 females) in 2021. What’s more shocking is that after increasing by 5.8% since 2020 – the rate for Alcohol-induced deaths was the highest in 10 years.
