Rail project runs out of money

Victorian grain growers are facing freight costs of upward of $13 million a year, because a rail upgrade has run out of money.

The $440 million Murray Basin Rail Project set-out to standardise tracks to the state’s north west – see the image below.

But the project has failed to convert the Sea Lake and Manangatang lines, because it’s run out of money.

Rural reporter Eddie Summerfield spoke with Victorian Farmers Federation President David Jochinke.
