Queensland Health Officer fuels confusion over AstraZeneca

Professor Robert Booy, Infectious disease specialist and epidemiologist at the University of Sydney & chair of the scientific committee of the Immunisation Coalition, joins Luke Grant following confusion on the vaccine front fuelled by the Queensland Premier and her Governor in waiting.

Militant online fringe groups have seized on Queensland’s Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young’s shock warning that young people could die from the AstraZeneca jab to spread anti-vaccination propaganda.

As Dr Young doubled down yesterday, insisting young people could die from rare blood clots, online anti-establishment groups shared the video from Wednesday’s extraordinary press conference more than 1300 times.

In contrast, Professor Booy says the major COVID-19 vaccines were more closely studied than any other vaccine, both in clinical trials and also real-world scrutiny.

“We have more confidence about the safety of the COVID vaccines than any other vaccine we currently use,” he says.
