Peugeot 5008 – French and different with real appeal

Motor Torque

Talking today about the Peugeot 5008 mid-sized SUV – As I said last week when reviewing the impressive new Citroen C3 hatch, both French brands now fall under the same dealerships. I wasn’t too complimentary last week about the new importer’s handling of Citroen in the first six months and copped a tongue lashing for my comments, I stand by those remarks, however with Peugeot it’s doing a much better job. As is said last week I have a soft spot for French product – it’s in many ways charming, different, an acquired taste and always leans towards comfort rather than handling which is the converse of German products. Peugeot now has three SUV’s in the market, the five-seat 2008 and 3008 and now the seven-seat 5008, a front-wheel-drive only mid-size SUV in three models, all automatic. I tested the mid-range 1.6-litre turbo six-speed automatic 5008 GT-Line at $46,990. First impression – upmarket, also dearer but also very highly equipped. More next segment. I’m David Berthon
