Mitsubishi’s ASX SUV – our top-selling small SUV by a country mile

Motor Torque

With perhaps the widest choice of models available in the world here in a relatively we are always being sold the latest technology. In small SUV’s for example under $40,000 there’s a wide choice available, around 25, and some excellent models like Hyundai’s Kona and Mazda’s CX-3. However, the biggest seller is a relatively old design the Mitsubishi ASX – to the end of July Mitsubishi had sold 12,024, the next best, Mazda CX-3, as much newer design, had sold 9,041. Quite clearly the excellent value for money of the ASX has been well received by the market. Some 18 months back Mitsubishi introduced a more affordable two-wheel-drive ES variant from 23,490 in manual, 26,990 in automatic and it’s been a winner for them – more a city commuter where most SUV’s spend their time. Mitsubishi wisely got rid of the all-wheel-drive variants in the ASX range and it’s been a winner for them – but the ES is not just a price leader with little specification – it has a nice level of features – a rear view camera, cruise control, 18-inch alloy wheels emergency brake assist and a range of active safety features, Bluetooth connectivity, a leather steering wheel and gear shifter. But above all else it’s the value story that has made this small Mitsubishi ASX so popular – currently on offer from $23,990 drive-away with a seven-year warranty, two years free servicing and $1,000 in free genuine accessories. Little wonder its doing well in a tough market.
