Mercedes-Benz GLC – the perfect package size for a premium medium sized SUV

Motor Torque

Talking further on Mercedes-Benz’ top-selling medium SUV, the GLC, in particular the entry GLC 200 rear drive nine-speed automatic priced at $67,400. One can understand its popularity given its smooth inoffensive styling with a large accentuated three-pointed star on the grille – the power of which in the premium SUV segment can’t be overstated. The Mercedes GLC was upgraded last year with some subtle styling upgrades, a new grille and sleeker LED headlights, only small differences with most of the changes happening inside. The 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder got a small power increase, a very satisfying performer benefiting most from a silky smooth nine-speed automatic.

It needs a diet of 98 RON fuel and I got close to the stated combined cycle fuel economy of 7.8L/100. Equipment wise it benefits from a stack of active driver assist technology backed by Mercedes new five-year warranty. Some nice features: ambient lighting within the cabin offers 64 colours to choose from, also voice activated command technology and access to Mercedes me Connect smartphone App that lets you track your car and manage servicing and other functions. The base GLC gets fake leather but very durable seat trim with power adjustment, digital radio, and satellite navigation with live updates. An electric tailgate makes way to generous 550L of luggage space and under-floor storage – no spare though – the standard tyres the run-flat variety.
