Meet the invisible illnesses affecting 1 in 5 Australians

This week is anxiety disorders awareness week.

Mental health disorders affect around 20% of Australians aged 16-65 each year with anxiety disorders the most common affecting an estimated 14% of the population. We all know that coronavirus has rapidly changed the way we live, work and communicate.

Response measures, such as restrictions on social gatherings and closures of workplaces, have significant impacts for Australians and may cause stress, anxiety and concern in many people.

Dr Richa Rastogi, psychiatrist from Sydney Adventist Hospital, is with John Stanley to help explain exactly what anxiety disorder is, how it differs from normal anxious moments, the impact of COVID-19, and how early identification and treatment does make a difference.
