David Berthon

It’s been teased for some time now however Mazda has confirmed it will reveal its much-awaited new CX-60 SUV on March 9, the first in a line of Mazda SUV’s debuting a new 223kW plug-in hybrid system pairing a 2.5-litre non-turbo four-cylinder petrol engine with the added benefit of an electric motor.

The CX-60 is the first of a new breed of Mazda SUVs featuring rear and all-wheel drive. A larger CX-80 with three rows of seats is also believed to be under consideration for Australia.  Due in showrooms mid-year the CX-60 is said to incorporate an elegant high-quality interior, Mazda claiming it introduces the ideas of Kaicho, the harmony of which comes from mixing different materials and textures, including maple wood, nappa leather, Japanese textiles and chrome details, and Misuba, the uniquely Japanese way of binding textiles which was the inspiration for the instrument panel stitching.
