Koala Hospital announces breeding program to help rebuild after bushfires
Michael is joined by Sue Ashton, President of The Koala Hospital Port Macquarie, which has launched the world’s first wild koala breeding programme in the hope of rebuilding wild populations devastated by bushfires in the Mid North Coast region and later, other locations in NSW.
The koala hospital has been able to fast-track the program after their GoFundMe campaign, initially to buy and distribute wildlife drinking stations, was expanded to include the wild koala breeding program and proved wildly successful.
The Hospital had hoped to raise $25,000 to help its post-bushfire rehabilitation efforts, but thanks to the generosity of supporters around the world they saw $7.9 million in donations roll in.
