Kia Rio- perfect for first car buyers

It’s been a while since we spoke about the Kia Rio hatchback– a car that was always popular here mainly on price but which in recent years has had a lot more competition in the light car segment. The Korean built Kia Rio finished 2016 as the seventh best-selling light car – the segment dominated by Hyundai’s Accent. However, a new fourth-generation Kia Rio has arrived – Kia Australia rationalising the range, dropping the three door model and the larger 1.6-litre engine. The five model Rio now consists of four models, all with 1.4-litre 74kW four- cylinder engines and a choice of six-speed manual or four-speed automatic. No price rises – the entry S manual listed at $16, 990 plus on road costs but currently offered with free on-road costs. With more equipment the latest Rio now offers better value for money but it arrives in a very competitive market segment – but perhaps for first car buyers the appeal of a 7-year unlimited kilometre warranty is its most compelling argument.
