Kia Picanto: new model refined and extraordinary value
Kia’s Picanto is one of my favourites – a new model arrived this week giving this small Korean five-door hatch a lot more appeal – the new model looks similar but with advanced high strength steel is stronger yet lighter, 25mm higher, sitting on a longer wheelbase – the upshot being better head, shoulder and legroom in the front seat and a 20 per cent larger luggage space. Kia sensibly have just one model in Picanto, now available in five-speed manual at $13,990 drive-away, $15,690 in four-speed automatic. That money buys a reversing camera, rear parking sensors and cruise control and it can now mirror your smartphone by playing your music and display navigation instructions on a 7-inch infotainment touch screen. More refined too, the latest Picanto quieter at idle but also cruising – refinement for such an entry model is impressive, Kia claiming it is the quietest car in this class. Six airbags, electronic stability control and a 7-year warranty making it extraordinary value. I’m David Berthon
