July car sales flat and a reflection of the economy as a whole
They often say the car industry is the best barometer of the general economy and official V-Facts car sales figures released this week show the passenger vehicle market for July was down 11.1 per cent on July last year. Of the top ten selling vehicle marque’s Kia was the only one to increase its sales over the same month last year, a reflection of the popularity of several of its models including the small Cerato hatch and sedan. Cerato sales year-to-date are up 12.3 percent, the fourth best-selling small car and gaining on the top three. Top seller Toyota’s Corolla is down 16 per cent year-to-date, Mazda’s 3 is down 12.3 percent and Hyundai’s i30 is down 3.1 percent.
