Jim Haynes’ not-so-famous Aussie characters

Mike Jeffreys

Michael is joined each week by Aussie historian, author & entertainer Jim Haynes, for his unique knowledge of the not-so-famous characters from Australia’s history.

This week Jim shines the spotlight on Billy Hughes – ‘The Little Digger’

Born in London to Welsh parents in 1862, William Morris Hughes was an Australian politician who served as the 7th Prime Minister of Australia, in office from 1915 to 1923.

There are many stories of Hughes’ humour and quick thinking, when he died in 1952, he had been a Member of Parliament for 58 years having been expelled from both the Labor Party and the conservative United Australia Party.
