This week Jim shines the spotlight on Mei Quong Tart – Mandarin Of The Fifth Degree With A Scottish accent.

 

Mei Quong Tart (1850–26 July 1903) was a prominent nineteenth century Sydney merchant from China and one of Sydney’s most famous and well-loved personalities.

 

He made a significant impact on the social and political scene of Sydney at a time of strong anti-Chinese sentiment in Australia.
