Jaguar F-Type convertible P450 – One for the enthusiast driver

David Berthon

Driving the Jaguar F-type rear-drive convertible, one of the last petrol Jaguar’s before the company moves to a full electric portfolio for 2025. A risky move perhaps and one that will be worth watching. On the other hand, the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol F-Type Convertible I’m driving will to my mind become a collector’s item – a low volume sports car, and just 47 were sold last year. An exciting car to drive, an eight-speed automatic with manual shift paddles and with performance underpinnings it inspires in all it does. Press the more open quad exhaust button and the orchestrated sound heightens the excitement level. Powerful, yet smooth in delivery the big V8 can push you to 100km/hour in just 4.6 seconds. Yes, its snug but on the other hand comfortable. A true sports car in every way. Priced at $186,920 although if you can still find one expect it to have some options. The Giola green test car with tan Windsor leather performance seats drew comment wherever I parked it – a striking two-seater with premium finishes. The on-road performance exhilarating with enough driver assist aids to leave the enthusiast motorist begging for more on a winding road. Warranty five- years unlimited kilometre with welcome complimentary service costs.
