Is January 1st a more suitable day to celebrate Australia Day?

With all the chatter around January 26, many have suggested the day the six separate British colonies of Queensland, NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia became the Commonwealth of Australia, January 1st 1901, would be more appropriate. Professor Frank Bongiorno, Head of History at ANU joined the Two Murrays to examine Australian Federation.
