Gas wholesale prices have tripled in the past year. So far, households have only seen increases of about 10% in their retail rates, but worse is yet to come as the soaring wholesale prices flow through to homes.

Gas used to be the cheaper alternative to electricity for heating, cooking and hot water. But maybe not for long.
