Is it safe for Islamic State Australians to return from Syria?

Bill Woods

Bill Woods is joined by Michael Shoebridge, Director, Strategic Insights Australia, following the federal government’s announcement to bring dozens of women and children in Syrian detention camps home to Australia.

Former Coalition home affairs minister Karen Andrews says she is not convinced it is safe to rescue them, even though returnees will be monitored by security agencies.

The 16 women and 42 children, who are families of Islamic State members, have been held in al-Roj detention camp in northeast Syria near the Iraqi border for three-and-a-half years following the fall of Islamic State.
