Chris O'Keefe

The Indian community in Sydney is buzzing with excitement as Prime Minister Narendra Modi kicks off his Australian visit.

The anticipation of Modi’s arrival has created a vibrant atmosphere, especially in Harris Park, known as a “little slice of India.” 20,000 people are expected to fill the Qudos Bank Arena at Olympic Park to welcome him, with more from across the country flying into Sydney for the event.

The Indian Prime Minister’s popularity, both domestically and internationally, is evident from the fact that his party boasts a whopping 170 million members and he himself enjoys a massive following of 75 million on Instagram.

In a conversation with Chris, Sanjay Deshwal, the president of the Little India Harris Park Business Association, explained Modi’s popularity by crediting him for leading India into the modern world, managing the country efficiently, and elevating India’s status on the global stage.
