How to choose a competent building inspector

Pre-purchase building inspections are a crucial part of buying a home, as they can reveal some potentially costly problems that could cause the buyer major headaches.

Believe it or not, in most Australian states and territories, building inspectors don’t need to be registered or accredited – anyone can do an inspection.

Bill speaks with Elias Oostveen, Building Inspector & Registered Builder, who says there are things buyers can do to make sure they choose a competent building inspector, including checking their qualifications and ensuring they have insurance.

He also recommends checking a company’s Google reviews and says don’t make your choice based on price alone – cheap often doesn’t mean better!
