Hi-tech space a strong focus for Aussie satellite scientists

Dr William Crowe explains to John Staney how his company keeps an eye on satellites in case they go into an uncontrolled tumble. The smallest satellite in space is 2cm long.

At any given time your device could be talking to 6 GPS satellites. GPS satellites are controlled by the US Navy and they can switch them off at any time.

Optus has 5 satellites in orbit and the NBN has 2 – all are orbiting at around 35,000Km above earth.
