Happy 65th Birthday to Channel Nine

Chris Smith

Chris Smith has a walk down memory lane with Brian Morelli the television director responsible for the first broadcast from Nine on 16th September 1956.

If ever there was a television man with experience in directing any and every type of sport, that would be Brian Morelli. With his tales of broadcasting Test cricket, Kerry Packer’s obsession with live sport from all over the world and even directing the Two Ronnies, Brian has some wonderful stories. Who would have guessed how some of those sound effects in cricket were produced – and it had nothing to do with the real action!
