Genesis’s flagship GV80 SUV gets even better for 2023
Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis continues its march on the local market. This
relatively new upper luxury brand continues to win plaudits ranked highest for
tech innovation in the U.S. J.D. Power 2022 Tech Experience Study. I’ve just
tested the top line Genesis GV80 with 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 linked to an 8-
speed automatic. At $108,691 it jumps off the mark with strong performance
despite a rather hefty weight, feels absolutely bulletproof, quiet and despite its
dimensions shrinks around you when pushed hard. For 2023 its road preview
adaptive suspension has thankfully been further refined to delete pitch on rough
surfaces and provide the less figidity ride you expect in an upper luxury SUV.
Safety wise, 10 airbags in total but disappointingly, the head airbags dont extend
to the third-row seats. The luxury equipment is extensive, but the test car also
had a $10,000 optional luxury package that added heated and ventilated rear
seats, power rear door shades, 3 zone climate control, a Nappa leather appointed
interior, to name just a few, these on top of what is already a very comprehensive
luxury specification. Genesis owner support is also impressive – a five-
year/unlimited kilometre warranty, five-years complimentary servicing including
valet pick-up and return, 10-year 24/7 roadside assistance and 10-year map
updates. I’m David Berthon.
