General Motors Specialty Vehicles launches in Australia with over 50 dealers

David Berthon

General Motors launched its specialty vehicles franchise  here this week through a national network of over 50 dealers – General Motors Specialty Vehicles first up offering the remanufactured Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pick up truck remanufactured in Melbourne to right hand drive by the Walkinshaw Automotive Group – just one grade initially, the LTZ Premium, to be followed late next year by the Silverado 2500 and the C8 Chevy Corvette sports car. North American full-size pickup trucks are redefining the ute market here – RAM pickups, also converted by Walkinshaw,  have been selling up a storm over the last few years, helped this year no doubt, by the  Governments 100 per cent asset write off concession. The Chevrolet Silverado 1500  features a 6.2-litre EcoTec3 V8 petrol engine linked to a ten-speed automatic – theses big and bold vehicles may purvey a truck like appearance but there loaded with sophistication and technology that makes them behave much like a luxury car.
