Former Senator Rex Patrick slams MP travel perks & expenses

Clinton Maynard

Mike is joined Rex Patrick, former Centre Alliance senator for South Australia, who  condemns Australia’s travel entitlements system for MPs.

This system permits them to utilize taxpayer funds for accommodations, including houses or flats owned by themselves or their colleagues.

Analysis reveals that nearly 24% of MPs and around a third of senators own property in Canberra, with some using it as a secondary residence, others as an investment, and some renting it out to fellow MPs or senators.

Also discussed is Adam Bandt, leader of the Greens and advocate for climate action, incurred expenses nearing $1 million in a year, with notable costs including $204,000 for printing, $23,000 for two private jet flights, and $12,000 for a government-provided vehicle and petrol.

Despite his party’s focus on climate change prevention, Bandt spent $23,000 on private jets during the 2022 election campaign.
