Federal budget to include plan to build 1 million homes by end of the decade

The budget tonight is a welcome signal to the building and construction industry which has been crying out for action to address housing affordability barriers and supply constraints.

John Stanley chats with Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia, to get her reaction to whether the new national Housing Accord will actually help, if it will impact housing affordability and if it’s going to deal with the homelessness crisis.

Under the scheme, the Commonwealth would support an additional 10,000 affordable dwellings in that time frame, costing the budget $350 million.
