Electric vehicle sales surge in April to 8% of the market

Official V-Facts car sales figures for April show electric vehicle sales last month
peaked at 8 per cent of the total market – 6530 sales to a total market of 82,137.
The Tesla Model Y SUV was the fourth best seller in April behind the Toyota RAV
4 SUV, the Toyota Hilux ute and the market leading Ford Ranger Ute. Tesla is now
the eight best-selling car marque in Australia – Interestingly, despite slashing
prices on its Model 3 electric sedan and electric Model Y SUV only weeks ago it
has now announced price rises of $400 on two of the three variants offered in
each of the Model 3 and Model Y line-ups. The most affordable Tesla is now the
rear drive Model 3 sedan at $61,300 while the rear drive model Y SUV now starts
at $69,300 – both plus on-road costs. I’m David Berthon
The $400 increase on the rear drive Model Y comes less than a month after it was
reduced by $400.
