Dr Keith Suter on the Sri Lankan crisis

Michael is joined by Dr Keith Suter, Managing Director of the Global Directions Think Tank, for his opinion of Sri Lanka’s current crisis – brought about by an ill-conceived shift to organic agriculture, compounded by fuel shortages.

Sri Lanka has been reeling from a foreign exchange crisis that has left the government unable to pay for essential imports, including fuel and medicines as well as their banning of all synthetic agrochemicals, including fertilisers and pesticides to steer the country to be the world’s first to fully adopt organic agriculture.  This has proven disastrous for Sri Lanka’s food security.
