Macquarie Dictionary have announced their word of the year – but this year there’s a COVID word and non-COVID word.
The Committee chose rona as Macquarie Dictionary’s COVID word of the year for 2020. In true Australian fashion, we shortened coronavirus and made it a whole new word.
Doomscrolling is this year’s non-COVID word, with honourable mentions for Karen and pyrocumulonimbus.
