Cumberland City Mayor pushes on with Australia Day festivities

While a number of local councils have cancelled Australia Day celebrations due to COVID-19, Cumberland City Mayor Steve Christou is pressing on, claiming that COVID is with us, and “you can’t keep cancelling and putting events on hold”. On what is an important day for so many, Mayor Christou says “citizenship ceremonies in person mean more”.Despite criticism from neighbouring councillors, Christou reiterates he is operating within NSW Health guidelines, and that the criticism is misplaced.
