Concern over antibiotic misuse in rural communities

New research shows rural communities are at a greater risk of developing anti-microbial resistance, than areas with better access to primary healthcare.

A study of antibiotic use in children in rural NT communities found parents make medical decisions based on advice from friends and family, when they can’t access a GP.

Rural reporter Brady Evans spoke to Charles Darwin University Head of Human Services Professor Mitchell Byrne about how concerning this is, and what can be done.
