Cattle herd to drop to lowest level since the mid-90s

Rural News

Australia’s national cattle herd is forecast to drop to 26-point-2 million head by the middle of this year, the lowest level since the mid-1990s.

Drought is the big driver, that’ll see slaughter rates down by 3 percent.

Export numbers will also drop, but will remain above one-million tonnes for the sixth consecutive year.

Rural reporter Eddie Summerfield caught up with Meat and Livestock Australia’s Market Inelegance Manager Scott Tolmie about the 2019 Cattle Industry Projections.
