Catholic bishops launch campaign against Calvary Hospital takeover

Mike Jeffreys

Luke is joined by Dennis Shanahan, National editor at The Australian newspaper, to discuss the takeover of the Calvary Hospital, a public hospital in the north of Canberra, by the Territory government.

Mr Shanahan highlights that Anthony Albanese is being criticized by political and Catholic Church leaders for not intervening in the ACT Labor-Greens’ decision while Opposition leader Peter Dutton describes the Prime Minister’s inaction as disgraceful, citing it as an attack on religious freedom.

Catholic Archbishop of Sydney Anthony Fisher has also called for a direct email appeal to Mr Albanese to ask for intervention to protect religious freedom and reassure religious organisations they will not have contracts for health and aged care “ripped up”.
