Car market softens in September

Official V-Facts passenger car sales in September softened by 5.5 per cent over the same month last year , this despite the fact that SUV’s continued their march on the market up by 6.2 per cent.
Small SUV’s were the high flyers up by a healthy 25.7 per cent while the large SUV segment grew by 10.4 percent. New vehicle sales in N.S.W. showed the biggest decline down 9.4 per cent with Tasmania the only state to show an increase of 21.9 per cent. Perhaps indicating a lack of confidence in the market sales to private purchasers declined by 15.8 percent compared to September last year while business fleet purchases remained buoyant up marginally at 0.3 percent. Top sellers for the month were the Toyota Hilux with 4.338 sales followed by the Ford Ranger with 3.228, the Toyota Corolla third on 2917. Holden continues to suffer with sales down 32.4 percent on Sept last year. I’m David Berthon
