Car connectivity a major contributor to accidents with driver distraction a problem

I can’t believe the recent spate of cars crashing into houses – nearly every week on the news a car destroys the front of a house. Driver distraction is a major cause of many accidents and it’s just not mobile phones.

Research from UK-based connectivity experts VNC Automotive suggests many new cars are now so heavily laden with technology that the touchscreen is becoming a major distraction.

VNC’s CEO Tom Blackie suggesting his company is installing technology that offers a slick window into the digital world and targets basic functionality as a pre-requisite for safety The touchscreen menu on many cars is a major distraction, selecting a radio station, or a specific function like idle stop or lane keep assist requiring two or three touches on the screen.

Surely such touch screen functions should be locked out unless the vehicle is stationary.
