Better Australia was colonised by the British than the Spanish, French or Portuguese
Former Foreign Minister Alexander Downer tells Michael McLaren there was no greater achievement of the British people in the last 250 years than the founding of modern Australia. With seven million square kilometres inhabited by very few, Australia was always destined to be colonised. Australia has Britain to thank for its legal system, democracy and the liberal market capitalist economic system, all of which has made Australia what it is today.
