Australia’s shortage of farm labour continues
Michael is joined by David Littleproud MP, Federal Minister for Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management, who has ramped up the pressure on Victoria, demanding it allow thousands of seasonal workers to arrive to fix an acute labour shortage.
The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated agriculture and hospitality industries heavily reliant on seasonal workers impacted by overseas flights being banned from entering Australia.
The crisis sees more than $38m worth of unpicked fruit and vegetables rotting in fields leaving the Federal Government struggling to entice Australians to the bush while focussing on importing a temporary workforce from the Pacific Island nations via its seasonal worker program.
