Australia’s building material shortage

Mike Jeffreys

Michael is joined by Denita Wawn, CEO of Master Builders Australia, regarding the critical construction material shortage that is currently causing delays for Aussie home builders.

Construction timber, which includes framing, laminated veneer lumber, and beams has been cited as the product most affected and has been in extremely short supply since the end of 2020.

The shortage is thought to be driven by increased investment in home construction and renovations as well as the loss of local timber in the 2020 Black Summer bushfires.

2021 is expected to be a record year for detached home builds, though demand is expected to ease later in the year.
