Australia to take world trade action against India
Australia is taking India to the World Trade Organisation over breaches of trade obligations.
WTO rules allow market price supports from government of up to 10 per percent of the total value of production.
But the Indian Government is being accused of providing subsidies of above 90 percent in recent years, including up to 99.8 percent in 2015-16.
These subsidies have sent the global sugar prices spiralling below the cost of production, impacting about 4,000 farmers here in Australia.
