Aussies lose billions to scammers last year

The latest Targeting Scams report released by the ACCC has revealed Australians lost a record $3.1 billion to scams in 2022, which is an 80 per cent increase on total losses recorded in 2021.

Investment scams were the highest loss category ($1.5 billion), followed by remote access scams ($229 million) and payment redirection scams ($224 million).

Luke is joined by Mark Smith, Principal at Brander-Smith-McKnight Lawyers, who have expertise in the area of fraud and internet scams having recovered large amounts of money for some affected victims.

Mr Smith offers some timely advice on the type of scams, how to avoid them and what can be done for victims.
