Audi’s S5 Coupe – at the pinnacle level of performance driving

David Berthon

Talking further on Audi’s performance skewed S5 Coupe. As I said earlier, part of the Audi A5 family including Coupe, Sportback and Cabriolet body styles.

The two-door S5 Coupe $108,700, the five-door Sportback sitting on a 60mm longer wheelbase the same money.  The S5 powered by a 3.0-litre turbo V6 driving through a slick 8-speed automatic with manual shift paddles – drive via Audi’s proven Quattro all-wheel-drive system that in normal conditions directs 40 percent of the torque to the front wheels, 60 percent to the rear – pushed hard drive up to 85 percent is directed to the rear wheels.

What Audi call an S-specific sport suspension with adaptive electronic damper control means this performance coupe feels absolutely planted on the road – the quattro all-wheel-drive system ensuring ultimate grip.

One of the best GT cars I’ve driven with absolute balance and capability on a fast-winding road. Ride quality remains first rate despite low profile 265 x 30-series tyres. The quality on the Audi S5 Coupe hard to fault – the Nappa leather seats ooze comfort with a massage function a real bonus on a longer trip.

The Bang and Olufsen premium sound system a highlight with no less than 19 speakers. Disappointments are hard to find, Audi’s service plan at $1,920 for three years good value but its three-year/unlimited kilometre warranty now below industry standards.
