Audi’s refreshed Q2 SUV – the 2.0- litre 40TFSI quattro the one to own.
Driving Audi’s recently refreshed Q2 premium compact SUV – more specifically, the 2.0-litre 140kW 40 TFSI quattro S-line seven-speed auto at $49,990. Now with refreshed styling giving the Q2 far more character. As a driver it feels far bigger behind the wheel than its compact dimensions allude to – a very impressive ride and well-formed and accommodating sports seats give this impression and adds to its premium feel.
I prefer Audi’s Q2 to the BMW X2 and Mercedes-Benz GLA – to me it’s very well packaged for the money – the 2.0-litre turbo engine delivers strong performance through a slick dual-clutch automatic with smooth shifts and the benefit of paddle shifters when you want to manually downshift a gear. And of course, the all-wheel-drive aspect of its driveline gives it great road grip.
Whilst is mainly a city slicker, the Audi Q2 on a winding country road is a joy to drive, competent, very well balanced with great electric powered steering and excellent reassuring brakes. And as I said, with a ride quality that’s very much class leading.
It’s not perfect however, tyre roar transmitted into the cabin on some of our courser road surfaces can be intrusive perhaps indicating a lack of insulation in the wheel arches. Good economy, I managed 7.2L/100 with a mix of driving conditions with the need for 95RON petrol.
