Talking today about the Audi A3, which comes as a hatchback and sedan and is Audi’s second-best seller. I drove the A3 sedan – sedans are clearly not the hot segment of the market with SUVs representing nearly 60 per cent of sales but small sedans over $40,000 did show an 11.6 per cent increase in the first quarter. Two A3 models – I drove the more affordable front wheel drive A3 35 TFSI at $58,900 drive-away well priced but also well packaged – Audi now also providing a discount to the value of the applicable GST payable. The Audi A3 TFSI sedan features a 1.5-litre turbo four-cylinder engine with 48-volt mild hybrid electric technology driving through a seven-speed automatic. On 18-inch alloy wheels it has a nice stance – looks and feels premium, well sized, an ideal second car for those who still prefer a sedan over an SUV. The dash, touchscreen and controls all deserve special mention, as does the digital instrumentation and toggle style gear selector, the interior classy with clever packaging also provides better than average interior space. Option prices can be pricey, and I’d like a spare wheel rather than a tyre repair kit, but overall, a great premium small sedan package.
