70th annual Pebble Beach Concours – a week for the enthusiast.

David Berthon

It’s been a big week on the Monterey Peninsula in the U.S.– over 10 days of motoring enthusiast heaven culminating in the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance tomorrow with 200 of the best collector cars on show. From my perspective the best automotive week in the enthusiast calendar – returning this year after its cancellation last year. Celebrating its 70TH year nothing comes close to this fabulous Concours with so much to offer car buffs in this picturesque part of California.

There’s over 30 associated events during the week plus three world class auctions – all with a dazzling array of lots on offer. Classic car prices the world over are on fire and it’s no different here – last Sunday in Melbourne Burns on-line auction saw some incredible prices – $128,500 for a 1954 Holden FJ windowless panel van, $382,000 for a 1973 Holden GTR XU1 Torana – Holden may be gone but it’s far from dead.
