Peter V’landys doesn’t want NSW fans to be punished over Government’s broken promise

ARL Commission Chairman Peter V’landys says New South Wales fans shouldn’t be punished, following the Government’s decision to backflip on refurbishing suburban stadiums.

The NSW Government had a $250 million agreement with the NRL to upgrade Brookvale Oval, Shark Park and Leichhardt Oval, but earlier this week Premier Dominic Perrottet reneged on the deal, saying the money needed to be spent on other purposes.

It leaves the venue for this year’s NRL Grand Final up in the air, but V’landys told The Continuous Call Team, the Commission will meet on Monday to make a decision.

“We don’t want to punish the NSW fans because the government doesn’t meet its commitment,” V’landys said.

“Just because the government’s lacking integrity on this issue, doesn’t mean we punish the wrong people.”

The government has already committed at least $300 million in funding to rebuild Penrith Stadium.

The NRL Grand Final will be held on Sunday, October 2.
